There was a lot of obvious differences and similarities between the movie version and the play version of Macbeth. One of the similarities would obviously be the plot, as well as the characters. The big difference between the two versions would be the scenery, in the play, there was no scenery but it was implied that it took place in the Middle Ages, where as the movie version seemed to have taken place in a more modern time where boats, mafias, and night clubs were in existent. The smaller differences between the two would be scenes that were either omitted or moved to a different part, for example when Lady Macbeth had her speech/soliloquy, in the play, she had her soliloquy after she recieved the letter from Macbeth, and in the movie it was after Macbeth told her personally about his plot. Also, there was a scene that was added to the movie, when Banquo's ghost was shown strangling Macbeth during the banquet.
To me, the play was kind of dry, draggy at some points and not very appealing, unlike the movie where in there was much more scenery and more suspense.

I agree, the movie version of it was easier to understand due to the scenary they were able to provide and show the audience. The play version of Macbeth was dragging and did seem too dry. Maybe because it lacked a lot of quality that the movie version was able to show.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with what was stated, the play version felt like it was lacking a lot. The film version had it all and some which kept the audience intrigued and, i believe, better entertained
ReplyDeleteI think you made a good point when you wrote that some scenes were taken out of the modern version and some were moved to another part. For example, the scene of the drunken porter didn't come out in the modern version.
ReplyDeleteGood point, Karina! That is a great observation!
